From San Ignacio we went to San Basilio with a stop in Santa Rosalia to get some groceries. The streets are tight in Santa Rosalia so we had to get creative with parking at La Ley. Oops…parking ticket came next with the parking attendant calling the police. Ollie and I were getting ice cream and buying oranges so we missed the ordeal but Dave wasn’t too happy about the $75 ticket.
Randomly this copper mining town has a metal church that was designed for the 1889 world fair in Paris by Alexander Gustav Eiffel (of Eiffel Tower fame). After the exposition the church was dismantled and stored for years. Eventually it was purchased by the mining company and shipped to Santa Rosalia and reassembled there in 1897.

They still mine copper here today as well as manganese. The town doesn’t look like a typical Baja town as most of the houses are old wooden homes typical of mining towns. It kind of reminds me of the old homes in Park City. There is also a black sand beach here that is a result of the near by Tres Virgenes active volcanoes.
