We left our camp on Bahia de Los Angeles on the 26th and stopped in town on the way out for lunch, water, groceries, fuel and to look for a hose to replace one on the air compressor that keeps failing. Although the town is super small we were able to find everything we needed. Tracking down the hose was the hard part but Dave was able to find a mechanic that had the right size and gave him a couple feet of it. Thank goodness for Dave’s Spanish skills.
The kids are funny about going into the mercados/tiendas. They stick really close and are very quiet. It has been interesting watching them be out of their comfort zones, but I love how they make the effort to use some Spanish phrases with people. Ollie, who has been nicknamed “campion” by the locals, is always quick with a gracias or por favor. And Miles and Fin are picking up quite a few phrases.
After a couple wrong turns on our way out of town (hardly any roads have signage down here) we were on our way down the Sea of Cortez coast to San Rafael. It wasn’t that far on the map, 75 miles or so, but we pretty much had to go 10 mph the whole way so it took just over four hours to get there. The first spot we saw when we got to the bay was a sign that that beach was protected for turtles. We saw a shack and some trucks down at the end of the bay so we headed there. When we pulled up there wasn’t any signs of life but we soon ran into Pancho, who has become one of the favorite people of the trip so far.
We stayed at Bahia de San Rafael for three nights. What an amazing spot! More on what we loved about it soon…
